Brake Caliper Defect Brings Rogue Recall
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Due to a supplier-manufacturing error, certain 2021 model year Nissan Rogue sport utility vehicles (SUVs) might be missing a bushing in either the right or left rear brake caliper. The missing bushing might lead to a brake-fluid leak and reduced braking capability which has resulted in this recall.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Part 573 Safety Recall Report 21V-286, the recall covers 14,054 Rogues which were fitted with ADVICS calipers.
The report stated, “A technician at the supplier did not initiate the automatic cycle for inserting the bushing in production.” It also indicated this error was not caught due to a different problem in the manufacturing process.

Summing up the result of the mistake, “The brake caliper bushing serves as a guide for the bolt nut shaft and keeps the O-ring seal in place. Without the bushing in place, the O-ring seal can move and become deformed in-between the cast surface and the bolt nut, resulting in a brake fluid leak path.”
A brake fluid leak can result in a dash-warning light illumination as well as inadvertent reduced braking capability and, thus, potential for a crash.
The remedy will be replacement of calipers at no cost to customers or dealers. Dealers were notified as to the recall late last month; owners are scheduled to be notified about the recall beginning June 10th.
